Situated at the northern end
of the "7 Mile Beach Island," Avalon extends
eastward one mile farther into the ocean than
its neighboring resorts and is often referred to
as being "Cooler by a Mile".
Beach and water activities
highlight the daytime pleasures of an Avalon
vacation. This peaceful beachfront
community is dotted with distinctive homes and
beach cottages and hosts hundreds of brightly
colored sailboats, sleek motor boats and
comfortable yachts during the summer months.
Some of the finest
accommodations are found on the island resort.
Visitors return to Avalon throughout both the
summer and quiet season for peaceful and
relaxing vacations. Beautiful beaches and
gentle surf, combine with fine shopping,
exquisite restaurants and exciting nightclubs
for a great vacation escape.
The "high dunes" of Avalon
have been carefully preserved over the years.
These dunes create a beautiful natural setting
for the beaches and protect them, as well, from
storm erosion. Walkways have been
erected at the street ends to allow access to
the beach. The dune areas of the
beach are covered with natural foliage and plant
life indigenous to the area. At one time,
all the beaches along the coast were covered
with the same foliage such as that found along
the Avalon beaches. The residents of
Avalon are also proud of their public parks and
playgrounds. Beautifully maintained
by the residents, these parks offer a peaceful
respite from the hustle and bustle usually
associated with an action-packed vacation.
Fishing boats line the back
bay area. The Avalon Sport Fishing Center
located at the northern end of the resort,
between 15th and 16th Streets at the Bay, is
headquarters for a large fleet of charter and
head boats. Situated at the southern end
of Avalon at 54th Street and the Bay is the Bay
Park Marina with a municipal boat ramp and
slips. Charter, party and private boats
leave daily for the easily accessible back bay,
ocean and canyon fishing areas. You can
also fish from the surf, jetties and piers
throughout this resort community.
